Experienced Melbourne Deck Builder

We have extensive experience in building all sizes of decks from timber and composite materials to suit your family.

Whatever you need a beautiful new deck for,  we can help you out with our knowledgeable design and build philosophy. We are proud of our full-service deck building process and can help you from the very start of the project to the finishing details. Our professional, friendly staff will help you achieve the exact deck design you require.

Our service starts with the design of your deck and discussing your requirements for screening and privacy. We can assist you with submitting the correct details for council permits and can alter the design of your deck to fulfill local requirements.

We will complete soil testing to ensure the build is safe and long-lasting, and do an engineering survey to confirm that the design you have chosen is right for the site. We use quality structural steel and timber or composite materials for your new deck so that you can match your new outdoor space with the look of your current home.

Custom & Tailored Decking Designs…

We are happy to personalise the look of your deck by using the timber of your size and choice. We can also advise on the composite materials available, such as wood-polymer, which is the fastest-growing decking material. Composite deck boards are an environmentally-friendly timber alternative made from plastic and wood fiber. They are extremely weather and stain-resistant, and they are also very lightweight if that is a consideration on your property. Composite boards are also very kid-friendly as they don’t splinter or rot, are low maintenance, and come in a wide variety of colours.

APM can also advise you on finishing such as handrails or balustrades for your deck. We are happy to discuss combined deck & verandah projects, or work with any pre-prepared plans you have completed.

Yes, there are number of hidden screw systems we use and offer.

Should I use nails or screws on the decking boards?2020-07-19T14:19:44+10:00

This is more a personal choice. The two advantage of screws is that you can pull the decking boards up more easily if you need to remove them and they don’t tend to loosen at the edge of the deck in some cases like nails do.

Screws though tend to be more expensive than the nails and the actual loaf the deck takes a longer amount of time.

Yes, we offer a wide range of composite decking including ekodeck, trex, modwood and others.

What is the deck sub floor made out of?2020-07-19T14:17:47+10:00

For most decks, the sub floor is made from treated pine unless the client asks for hard wood or some other timber.

How much will my deck cost?2020-07-19T14:16:50+10:00

That all comes down to the size of the deck, materials used, if handrail and stairs are required.

What size deck should I build?2020-07-19T14:16:19+10:00

I usually advise clients that the deck size should be based on the requirements they need for space outdoors, their family size, what they wish to place on the deck and other needs.

How long will the deck last?2020-06-17T13:32:04+10:00

The condition of a deck after a few years depends on the maintenance that we perform on it regularly. A well maintained deck retains its beauty forever. To keep the deck as beautiful as the day it was built, we need to do the following:

1. Periodically check for nails that pop up from the wood. Reset it with a drip pin as soon as they are found. This prevents accident spills and injuries.

2. Over the years, a lot of dirt and dust builds up on the deck. This can be removed using good cleansing deck wash. Avoid chlorine bleaches which may damage the wood as well as the surrounding greenery. A power washer can give the deck a thorough cleaning. However, take care not to use it too close to the wood as this may damage the wood.
3. Use a long handled brush to loosen the collected dirt until you see the grain of the wood clearly.

4. Add a wood brightener which removes all dirt from the wood and brightens it. Work the brightener into a small area and use the power washer to remove even more dirt from the boards.

5. Thoroughly dry out the deck for a couple of days.

6. It is time to apply a sealer which will waterproof the deck, giving is some colour without masking the natural grain and also protect it from UV rays and other external threats. Remember to apply the sealer on the sides of the wood slats, starting with the top.

7. Apply the sealer on the deck using a painting pad with even strokes along the grain. One coat is all that is needed for years of protection.

Periodically, it is good to clean the deck with just a simple round of soap and water is enough to keep your deck in the best condition for years to come. Our team of deck builders will guide you through the process of maintaining your Deck as well as offering you options for our team to do it periodically on your behalf so you can avoid the stress and time of doing it yourself.

Are you and all of your trades fully qualified and licensed?2020-06-17T20:57:16+10:00

Yes, we are registered building practitioners and members of the HIA Builders Association. We’ve been building for over 10 years and can comfortably guide you through the process of adding a deck, pergola, carport, verandah or alfresco area to your home.

Will you help with building and permits?2020-06-17T20:57:05+10:00

Yes, absolutely! We can help you navigate all of the complicated elements that may present when building your own deck. Our service starts with the design of your deck and discussing your requirements for screening and privacy. “A terrific pergola and an overwhelmingly positive experience. Thanks very much to both of you. It was a pleasure to have you working here and the pergola looks like it was built with the house rather than added later

Donna, Macleod

Hi Guys. We now live out on our new deck and pergola, it’s like an addition room, we love it. Your advice prior to construction was really good.

You committed to having the job done before Xmas and you were spot on. We had Xmas lunch and survived the wild storms.

Overall your team was very friendly & professional. 100% recommendation from us!

Overall we couldn’t be happier with the end product. The quality of workmanship is great and it’s better than what we envisaged. The advice given in regards to the feature slat jarrah wall and bar was welcomed to the point of even agreeing to have it built.

Thanks so much for your professional service and craftsmanship. We have already recommended you to many of our friends.
